Convergent Strategies for a Fragmented World

Wasilla, Alaska, July 26-27, 2024

An Unprecedented Encounter

In an unparalleled event, the Diplomacy and Leadership Summit was held in Wasilla, Alaska, gathering prominent figures from the Hispanic community of the United States and Latin America. This event was made possible through the collaboration of the Hispanic Communities Council, AC (CCH), the Honoris Causa Foundation USA and International (FHC USA, FHCI), MORE Latinoamérica, Universidad Santander, and PPEP.

Local Leadership on a Global Stage

The Mayor of Wasilla, Glenda Ledford, and the Governor of Alaska, Michael Dunleavy, actively engaged, showing their enthusiastic support for the inclusion and development initiatives presented. Their presence emphasized the relevance of the event for both the local community and the global agenda.

Deep Knowledge of the Land

Charles Parker, a local expert, provided a unique perspective on Alaska and its native peoples. During an hour-long lecture, he shared insights that many, including long-time Latino residents like myself, had not known for years. This dialogue reinforced the message that we are all equal and human brothers, guardians of a rich land that we must value and share.

A Celebration of Leadership and Heritage

The ceremony honored inspiring leaders such as Katya Echazarreta and Michaela Walsh, as well as highlighting the tireless work of Claudia Jones, president of the Honoris Causa Foundation in Alaska and founder of More Latinoamérica, Gabriela Castillo, president of the Honoris Causa Foundation USA and president of the Hispanic Communities Council, and Raquel Bessudo, president of the Honoris Causa Foundation International. These personalities underscored the influence of the Hispanic community globally and their ability to build bridges between cultures.

A Mosaic of Nations

The summit was notable for the diversity of its participants, with delegates from Panama, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and, of course, Mexico, among others. This congregation of countries not only celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the participants but also strengthened diplomatic and community ties across the Americas.

Cultural Culmination

The event concluded with the unveiling of the tenth Liberty Bell and a celebration at Chepos restaurant, where Mexican culture was celebrated with mariachis, folk dances, and a vibrant fashion display, symbolizing the union and joy of cultures that enrich Alaska.
