Wasilla, Alaska – October 30, 2025

The Fronteras Spanish Immersion Charter School community proudly celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with two vibrant performances that brought together nearly 400 parents in the school gymnasium under the theme “Discover, Learn & Celebrate Together.”

Two Performances Filled with Pride and Culture

During the morning session, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., kindergarten, first grade, and middle school students (sixth to eighth grade) took the stage. In the afternoon, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., it was the turn of second through fifth graders.

Each presentation began with welcoming remarks from Mrs. Pérez, followed by the Color Guard, the National Anthem, and the Alaska Flag Song, creating an atmosphere of deep respect and unity.

Students then delighted the audience with traditional dances, poems, and crafts that filled the stage with color, rhythm, and emotion, highlighting the richness of Hispanic traditions.

Representation of Latin American Countries

The morning presentation featured:
Puerto Rico – Mrs. Rivera, El Salvador – Mrs. Ortiz, Cuba – Mrs. Lavea, Spain – Mrs. Husmann, Costa Rica – Mr. Onfray, Mexico – Mrs. Jamroz, and Argentina – Mrs. Renee.

The afternoon performance honored other sister nations:
Guatemala – Mrs. Carranza, Panama – Mrs. Martínez, Colombia – Mrs. Cabret, Ecuador – Mrs. Smith, Peru – Mrs. Riedel, Paraguay – Mrs. Strickler, and the Dominican Republic – Mrs. Wright.

The Liberty Bell

One of the most moving moments was the presentation of the Campana de la Libertad (Liberty Bell), a handcrafted piece made of gold, silver, and bronze. The bell was rung to commemorate the independence of Latin American countries that celebrate their freedom on September 15 and 16, including Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Chile.

This act was made possible thanks to the support of FHC USA, CCH, MORE Latinoamérica, and Chepo’s Restaurant, who contributed to bringing this symbol of unity and Latino pride to the event.

Tradition and Remembrance

The celebration also featured a beautiful Altar de Muertos (Day of the Dead altar), adorned with cempasúchil flowers, papel picado, photographs, and candles, organized by Mary Carmen Hernández. The altar honored Mexican traditions and paid loving tribute to those who came before us.

Pride, Community, and Cultural Legacy

The Hispanic Heritage Presentation at Fronteras Spanish Immersion Charter School not only reaffirmed the values of diversity, respect, and bilingual education, but also demonstrated the power of a united community celebrating its roots with pride.

In the heart of Alaska, Fronteras Spanish Immersion Charter School stands as an extraordinary example of inclusion, leadership, and cultural appreciation — a school that, true to its name, breaks borders and builds bridges between languages, traditions, and hearts.
